Following Jesus is the greatest adventure in life. We believe our walk with Jesus is marked by a series of Next Steps. As we take each step, we grow in our faith and experience more of what it means to be a child of God. What’s your next step? Are you willing to take it?
Step One: FAITH
“Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” In the tenth chapter of Romans, we find this verse that tells us where we start. Our relationship with God begins with faith in Jesus as the son of God and the one who paid for our sins on the cross. He died in our place and rose from the dead to assure us of the promise of everlasting life.
Step Two : SALVATION
By grace we are saved through faith. We are saved as we accept God’s offer of grace and forgiveness of sin through faith in Jesus as our Savior. We’re not saved by anything we can do, only by what Jesus did on the cross and our belief in Him.
Step Three: BAPTISM
Baptism is the way we publicly confess that we have trusted Jesus as our Savior. Baptism is the symbol of our death to an old way of life and resurrection to a new life as a follower of Jesus.
Step Four: BELONGING
God wants each of us to be a part of the community of faith we call the church. As a member of the local church, we develop relationships with other believers and learn how to follow Jesus effectively. Everyone needs to have a place where they can feel at home, where they feel they belong, and where they can enjoy the fellowship of other believers.
Step Five: GROWING
God wants each of us to grow and develop into mature believers. We do that through a systematic study of the Bible and applying the principles taught in God’s word to our lives. Bible study deepens our relationship to God as we learn more about Him and His expectations for us.
Step Six: GIVING
We cannot outgive God. A vital part of our relationship is giving back to God a portion of what He has blessed us with. The Bible teaches us that we are to support God’s work with our tithes and offerings. Our commitment to God is demonstrated by the level of our commitment to practice biblical stewardship.
Step Seven: SERVING
God has a place of service for each of us and has given us talents, abilities, and spiritual gifts to use for Him. We have a responsibility to find them and use them to bless others and influence them to trust Jesus. Serving our Savior is how we live out our faith in Him.
